ForgeMarket is a modern WordPress marketplace theme designed for digital product stores, software studios, creator marketplaces, and portfolio-driven businesses. Built with native WordPress block technology and Easy Digital Downloads integration, it combines marketplace commerce with flexible portfolio and studio functionality.
A modern marketplace built for WordPress
ForgeMarket is a WordPress theme created by ForgeByte Studios for businesses and creators who sell digital products such as themes, plugins, scripts, apps, templates, and other downloadable tools.
The project began after evaluating older marketplace themes that relied heavily on legacy frameworks, outdated page builders, and tightly coupled functionality. ForgeMarket was designed from the beginning around a cleaner, more maintainable architecture.
The goal
The goal was to create a marketplace platform that could serve two purposes.
First, it needed to power ForgeByte Studios as a portfolio, software studio, and digital storefront.
Second, it needed to be flexible enough to eventually become a commercial WordPress theme that other businesses and creators could purchase and use for their own marketplaces.
Built for modern WordPress
ForgeMarket uses native WordPress block-theme technology rather than relying on a proprietary page builder.
The theme is built around:

- WordPress Site Editor
- theme.json
- reusable block patterns
- responsive layouts
- Easy Digital Downloads
- a separate ForgeMarket Core companion plugin
This approach keeps presentation inside the theme while marketplace and portfolio functionality lives inside the companion plugin.
Portfolio and commerce together
One of ForgeMarket’s core ideas is that not everything a studio builds needs to be for sale.
A ForgeByte project can be presented as a portfolio case study, while a downloadable theme, plugin, or script can also be connected to commerce.
This allows the same website to showcase:
- WordPress themes
- WordPress plugins
- mobile apps
- web applications
- websites
- scripts and utilities
- experimental projects
- digital products for sale
Marketplace-ready architecture
Although ForgeByte Studios is currently the primary creator on the platform, ForgeMarket is being designed with future marketplace functionality in mind.
The architecture can later support additional creators, vendor profiles, storefronts, product submissions, reviews, commissions, and seller dashboards without requiring the core theme to be rebuilt.
Security by design
Security is being treated as part of the architecture rather than something added after development.
ForgeMarket follows modern WordPress development practices including:

- nonce protection
- server-side input sanitization
- output escaping
- REST API permission callbacks
- separation of presentation and business logic
- controlled file handling
- minimal external dependencies
Current status
ForgeMarket is currently under active development at ForgeByte Studios.
The current development phase includes the marketplace storefront, portfolio system, project case studies, Easy Digital Downloads integration, and the foundation for future commercial marketplace features.
Future releases will expand the product experience with richer product pages, licensing, creator profiles, customer accounts, reviews, marketplace search, and additional storefront functionality.
